Recent trends on wound management: New therapeutic choices based on polymeric carriers

Abstract: Wound healing is an unmet therapeutic challenge among medical society since wound assessment and management is a complex procedure including several factors playing major role in healing process. Wounds can mainly be categorized as acute or chronic. It is well referred that the acute wound displays normal wound physiology while healing, in most cases, is seemed to progress through the normal phases of wound healing. On the other hand, a chronic wound is physiologically impaired. The main problem in wound manag… Show more

“…Each stage involves a cascade of events to ensure prevention of blood loss, elimination of bacterial contamination, regeneration and formation of a new skin tissue, respectively. A variation from the norm in this process results in a delay or prolongation of any of the healing stages, which in turn leads to impaired healing [ 1 ]. The interruption in the healing process may occur for a number of reasons connected to one’s lifestyle and health condition.…”

“…A similar trend of fiber diameter reduction was observed in the acetone-DMF solvent system. The mean fiber PCL/green tea composites will favor the absorption of excess exudate from the wounds simulating the function of the ECM [13]. Further, the electrospun membrane using acetone/DMF seemingly attractive choice compared to chloroform/DMF due to its enhanced water uptake percentage.…”

“…Subsequently, the wound is diminished. The target of wound healing is either to reduce the healing time or to avail undesired complications such as scarring [30].…”

“…It can be argued that the P. russeliana gel is similarly effective as Madecassol ® gel on epithelialization, granulation tissue thickness, and angiogenesis significant for the evaluation of wound healing. Moreover, the observed in vivo wound healing can be associated with the presence of phytol, which can accelerate and enhance the wound healing [30]. Besides angiogenesis, the improvement of dermal and epidermal regeneration, which consists of well-structured epithelial layers with an absence of crusting or intraepithelial inflammatory cells, is essential for wound healing.…”
