Recognized and Potentially New Biomarkers—Their Role in Diagnosis and Prognosis of Cardiovascular Disease

Abstract: Atherosclerosis and its consequences are the leading cause of mortality in the world. For this reason, we have reviewed atherosclerosis biomarkers and selected the most promising ones for review. We focused mainly on biomarkers related to inflammation and oxidative stress, such as the highly sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin 6 (IL-6), and lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2). The microRNA (miRNA) and the usefulness of the bone mineralization, glucose, and lipid metabolism marker o… Show more

“…For example, in HF, altered circulating levels of miRNAs were reported for miR-122, miR-210, miR-423-5p, miR-499, miR-622, miR-16, miR-27a, miR-101, and miR-150. Such miRNAs are suggested to play a role as diagnostic and prognostic CVD biomarkers [ 456 , 457 , 458 , 459 ].…”

“…ANG is a multifunctional protein known to induce blood vessel formation and is a potential biomarker for cardiac deterioration [ 20 ] and several types of cancers [ 24 , 25 , 26 ]. Within this context, we studied the effects of improving vitamin D status in circulating ANG and whether it is associated with other known cardiometabolic indices in vitamin D-deficient adults.…”
