Reconfigurable microstrip‐patch antenna with frequency and polarization‐diversity functions

Abstract: of all the gap-coupled L-MSAs is larger, but has lower gain, as compared to that of the SMSA. CONCLUSIONA compact L-MSA has been proposed and suspended configurations have been used to increase its BW and gain. Various suspended gap-coupled L-MSA configurations have been optimized for broader BW, which yields a larger BW on the order of 22%. Although the cross-polarization levels are higher, these may be useful in the mobile-communication environments. RECONFIGURABLE MICROSTRIP-PATCH ANTENNA WITH FREQUENCY A… Show more

“…Therefore, reconfigurable antennas can be basically categorized into three types: (1) frequency reconfigurable antennas [1][2][3][4][5] Although many reconfigurable antennas have been proposed, they are usually designed based on microstrip structures [1, 3-5, 9-13, 15, 16]. Due to the narrow bandwidth, they are not appropriate to be applied in base stations.…”

“…However, a circular polarization (CP) system is desirable for wireless local area networks (WLAN) with multipath fading and satellite communications with frequency reuse because of its insensitivity to transmitter and receiver locations. Single-feed rectangular microstrip antennas with dual switchable polarization between linear polarization (LP) and RHCP and with polarization diversity between RHCP and LHCP have been proposed [8][9][10][11]. However, it is hard to realize dual CP operation in one-port antenna systems.…”

“…However, the antenna can not realize dual polarization which is widely used in polarization diversity [7]. Reconfigurable patch antennas [8][9][10][11][12], offering polarization diversity, have been paid much attention to realize dual circularly polarization [13][14][15][16]. In spite of that, this type of antennas may hardly receive LHCP and RHCP signals simultaneously.…”
