A Novel Design of Dual Circularly Polarized Antenna Fed by L-Strip

Abstract: Abstract-A novel design of dual circularly polarized antenna is proposed. By etching cross slots on the patch, circular polarization (CP) is achieved. The patch is fed by two L-strips which provide wide impedance bandwidth and high isolation level. Polarization diversity between left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) and right-hand circular polarization (RHCP) is provided by switching the two ports and both LHCP and RHCP signals can be received simultaneously. The experimental results show that the 3 dB axial … Show more

“…Studies to achieve compact and broadband operations of microstrip antennas have increased greatly. Significant advances in the design of compact microstrip antennas with broadband, dualfrequency, dual-polarized, circularly polarized, and gain-enhanced operations have been reported over the past years [3,4,14,15]. By embedding the U-shaped coupling slots in the ground plane, the planar antenna shows good impedance matching in a wide band.…”

“…The effect of beam pulling results in a beam-pointing error (BPE), which is defined as the deviation of the mainbeam from that of the array factor pattern. Using omnidirectional antennas or an antenna element with low directivity [20][21][22][23][24][25][26], such as a microstrip patch, slot antennas, and printed dipoles, or increasing the number of elements reduces this error [27]. Using a low-directivity element also decreases the dependence of the retrodirected power on the interrogation angle.…”

“…With the rapid development of modern wireless communication systems, dual-band Doherty power amplifier [17] and dual-band-or dual-circularly polarized antenna and antenna array [18][19][20] featured lower cost and compact size have drawn much attention recently. Therefore, the branch-line couplers as the key components of it and several functions are required simultaneously, such as dualband operation, arbitrary coupling levels, and inherent impedance transforming.…”
