Reconfiguration of food grain supply network amidst COVID-19 outbreak: an emerging economy perspective

Abstract: The procurement of food grains from farmers is one of the biggest challenges under the COVID-19 outbreak due to country-wise lockdowns. The present study aims to reconfigure the existing food grain supply chain network. The study advances the extant literature by proposing a novel mathematical model that considers the government guidelines issued to procure food grains from farmers under the COVID-19 situation. The model includes personal distancing, a key parameter relevant in the COVID-19 crisis, and has rem… Show more

“…It is important to note that Covid‐19 has resulted in structural changes in many areas of life and business (Chopdar, Paul, & Prodanova, 2022; Gordon‐Wilson, 2021: Kursan Milaković, 2021; Nayal et al, 2021; Paul & Bhukya, 2021; Rayburn et al, 2021; Sharma, Singh, et al, 2021; Yap et al, 2021). “…Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that causes COVID-19 has mutated, resulting in different variants of the virus. The current COVID-19 and its new variants resulted in massive damage to all fields and organizations' businesses and brought panic worldwide (Qayyum, 2021 ; Queiroz & Fosso Wamba, 2021 ; Sharma, 2021b ). One of the unique characteristics of the COVID-19 outbreak is that it is the first long-term supply chain disruption in decades (Ivanov, 2021 ).…”

“…As per Naidoo and Fisher ( 2020 ), one-third of seventeen sustainable goals, adopted by the united nations, to be achieved by 2030, has been delayed due to the pandemic, and among these, goal no 13: “Climate action” has been put under a “threat” category. In this regard, some researchers have contributed their effort, such as Sharma et al ( 2021 ) formulated a mathematical model for allocating vehicles between warehouses at different locations under the Covid-19 pandemic scenario considering carbon emission from the transportation of vehicles. Gelles ( 2020 ) published the article concerning the transportation and warehousing problem of Covid-19 vaccines at the temperature of -80 °C, considering various obstacles, such as carbon emission.…”
