The pathogenesis of this disease remains uncertain, and proposed causes include temporal muscle hyperactivity (2), previous injury, chronic disc displacement of the ipsilateral temporomandibular joint (TMJ), endocrine stimuli, and genetic alterations (3)(4)(5)(6)(7).
