Recycle Effect on Device Performance of Wire Mesh Packed Double-Pass Solar Air Heaters

Abstract: Abstract:A new device for inserting an absorber plate to divide a flat-plate channel into two subchannels to conduct double-pass wire mesh packed operations was developed. The proposed wire mesh packed device improves the heat transfer efficiency substantially as compared that to flat-plate single-pass and double-pass operations using the same working dimensions, and the improvement of device performance was investigated experimentally and theoretically. Good agreement between the theoretical prediction and th… Show more

“…Mahmood et al [99] constructed SPSAH and DPSAH with black colour 4 different transverse fins (Figure 8), with 16 wire meshing between these fins, The optimum thermal efficiency (η th ) achieved with the 75 mm collector was 62.50% for DPSAH and 55% for SPSAH and temperature difference (ΔT) was inversional proportional to air mass flow rate. Ho et al [100][101] analysed (Figure 9) mathematically and experimentally the recycling effects on DPSAH performance with wire mesh packing and observed significant improvements in η th as compared to smooth SPSAH and DPSAH running under similar working condition. “…Another way studied by researchers (Ramani et al, 2010;Nowzari et al, 2011;Ajay and Sharma, 2012;Ho et al, 2014;Abdel, 2019) depending on introducing the porous media inside the channels of the double pass solar air heater collectors. These techniques showed the porous media enhances the performance of such collectors to a great extent with a higher pressure drop.…”
