“…This is consistent with the study of Li et al (2009b) which showed that Nothoholosticha is similar to Pseudokeronopsis in many respects, for example, midventral pairs arranged in a zig-zag pattern, distinctly fewer transverse cirri than midventral cirral pairs, and one marginal row on each side of the body. However, the two genera can be clearly separated by the number and arrangement of the frontal cirri (six clearly differentiated in Nothoholosticha vs. more than six, undifferentiated and arranged in a bicorona in Pseudokeronopsis) and the frontoterminal cirri (absent in Nothoholosticha vs. present in Pseudokeronopsis) (Wirnsberger, 1987;Wirnsberger et al, 1987;Song et al, 2006;Li et al, 2009b). Furthermore, based on SSrRNA and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 region sequence data, the evolutionary similarities between N. fasciola and species of Pseudokeronopsis were lower than those among species of Pseudokeronopsis (95.60-96.16% vs. 98.44-99.23%, Table 1).…”

“…Based on morphological and morphogenetic data, Berger () included 10 species in Pseudokeronopsis : the type species P. rubra (Ehrenberg, ) Borror & Wicklow, ; P. flava (Cohn, ) Wirnsberger et al., ; P. flavicans (Kahl, ) Borror & Wicklow, ; P. carnea (Cohn, ) Wirnsberger et al., ; P. sepetibensis Wanick & Silva‐Neto, 2004; P. similis (Stokes, 1886) Borror & Wicklow, ; P. decolor (Wallengren, 1900) Borror & Wicklow, ; P. multinucleate (Maupas, 1883) Borror & Wicklow, ; P . ovalis Kahl, ; and P. pararubra Hu et al., .…”

“…Wirnsberger et al. () neotypified P. carnea and mentioned that the species possesses only pigmented, small, and spherical cortical granules (i.e. the type I) around ciliary organelles.…”
