Reduced converter topology for integrated wind and small‐hydro energy generation system

Abstract: This study presents a robust and cost-effective microgrid topology for integrating two commonly available wind and small-hydro renewable energy sources. The proposed topology has two generators, one of them is self-excited squirrel cage induction generator driven by a small-hydro turbine and other one is permanent magnet brushless DC generator driven by a small-scale wind turbine. The proposed system is integrated using a voltage source converter and a boost converter which are maintaining voltage and frequenc… Show more

“…A solar air cooler system using standalone PMBLDCM with improved efficiency has been presented in [22]. As per the survey of literature presented in [1–22], the small hydro driven air conditioning systems for remote locations, have not been explored yet. The BLDC motor drives are widely used in various applications such that electrical vehicles, air conditioners, fans, solar water pumping systems and automation systems [23].…”

“…With the increasing proportion of hydropower installed capacity in the power system, the interaction effects between hydropower station and the power grid become more and more complex [1][2][3][4][5]. The stability of the power grid is closely related to the operation of the hydropower station, which is a non-linear, non-stationary, and time-variant system [6][7][8][9][10]. The dynamic quality of the hydroturbine generator unit (HTGU) transient process is an important factor affecting the stability of the hydropower station [11,12].…”
