Reduced graphene oxide obtained using the spray pyrolysis technique for gas sensing

Abstract: Graphene oxide films were formed using the ultrasonic spray coating method and studied with micro-Raman spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and electrical dynamic response of resistance measurements. Effect of different gases (water vapor, ethanol, acetone, ammonia, and isopropyl) on the dynamic response of resistance of the Au / graphene oxide / Au structure has been studied. The dynamic response shows that adsorption of all mentioned gases results in increase of the resistance. For ethanol, acetone and is… Show more

“…The SPT has been used because it is simple and involves cost-effective equipment. Both spin coating and SPT are simple and low-cost, but SPT involves controllable equipment. , Therefore, the deposition rate and the film’s thickness can be simply controlled by changing the spray parameters. The experimental setup of the spray pyrolysis technique used in this study is shown in Figure c.…”

“…77,78 SPT has been widely utilized in the solar cell industry to build thin films on glass substrates. 79,80 This technique has also been used to grow carbon nanotubes (CNTs) 81 and GO 78 and rGO 82 thin films for application in sensors. However, it has not yet been implemented in the GO RRAM fabrication process.…”

“…Pure carbon is well known as a hydrophobic material and adsorbed water layer is localized on the carbon surface. Chemical hydrophilicity and structural defects in the nitrated carbon material enhance penetration of water molecules deeper under the surface layers, increasing the electrical resistance through reversible band gap transition of the graphene-like material with respect to the humidity level [23,24] or by penetration into the space between the graphenelike layers and weakening of the electrical transport between the layers [25,26].…”

“…Unlike CVD-G, the size, thickness, and uniformity of the GO dispersions are not well controlled presently. As shown in Figure 12 , some clusters are formed by the accumulation of multiple-layer rGO [ 154 ]. In this case, NH 3 molecules adsorbed on the cluster top cannot influence electric current passing through the cluster bottom.…”
