Refining and Reinforcing Effects of In Situ AlN–TiN–TiB2/Al Composite Refiner on Aluminum

Abstract: Typical Al-Ti-B master alloys are good inoculant for aluminum alloys, which have shown obvious dependence on some alloying elements. In this work, in situ AlN-TiN-TiB 2 /Al composite refiner was successfully prepared by nitrogen alloying based on an Al-8Ti-1B melt. It is found that the refining, tensile strength, yield strength, and hardness of the pure aluminum modified by in situ AlN-TiN-TiB 2 /Al composite inoculant were all obviously improved. The enhanced refining and reinforcing effects of the refiner ca… Show more

“…In situ composites offer advantages such as uniform distribution of reinforcement particles, finer grain, clearer interface, improved thermal stability, and costeffective processing. [12][13][14][15][16] Several studies have been conducted on the wear behavior of Al-Mg 2 Si composites, with a focus on factors such as load, sliding speed and distance, temperature, fabrication process, and wear disc material. [17,18] Most of these studies have concentrated on room-temperature dry sliding wear analysis, evaluating the effect of modified or unmodified Al-Mg 2 Si composites fabricated through various processing.…”

“…Some of the common reinforcements that have been produced in situ are TiB 2 , TiC, ZrB 2, AlN, Al 2 O 3 , Al 4 Sr, Mg 2 Si, and (Mg,Ni) 3 Si . Aluminum alloys with TiC, TiB 2 , and ZrB 2 reinforcements can be prepared by the addition of halide salts.…”
