Rehabilitation of an Adolescent Equestrian Athlete With a History of Multiple Concussions: A Case Report Describing an Adapted Return-to-Sport Protocol

Abstract: Study Design Case report. Background Equestrian riding is a sport with a high risk of concussion. Currently, the literature guiding rehabilitation for concussions in equestrian athletes is limited, especially for directing return to sport. Case Description A 14-year-old female equestrian athlete presented to physical therapy following her third concussion in three years. Her primary complaints were headaches, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, light sensitivity, and neck pain. On examination, the patient dem… Show more

“…Similarly, self‐reported discomfort when exposed to a computer screen decreased when using a non‐liquid crystal display (non‐LCD) screen (Mansur et al, 2018) that refreshed at a lower rate than a standard LCD screen. Lastly, Gunter et al (2018) and Teare‐Ketter et al (2021) described cases with light hypersensitivity after a mTBI. The cases were both symptom free after several weeks of physical therapy (no specific treatment for the hypersensitivity symptoms was mentioned).…”

“…Lower computer design is mainly through the sensor and its peripheral circuit for signal acquisition, the original pulse blood oxygen signal for amplification and filtering, and analog-to-digital conversion. Data are sent to the upper computer through the serial port, and the hardware circuit mainly includes sensor acquisition peripheral circuit, microcontroller hardware circuit, and Bluetooth module circuit [19]. e primary task of design is to select the sensor and microcontroller, and send the collected initial signal to the sensor's internal conditioning module for early amplification and filtering processing.…”
