“…A possible explanation for the low correlation coefficient is that the both signal are not in phase indicating an offset in time or the influence of one variable may be spread over several observations of the other variable. Rieser et al (2010) reported that precipitation generally precedes EWT, and it takes some time until the accumulated water from precipitation is monitored as gravity change by GRACE. However, instead of using cross correlation function to determine the phase difference between the annual signals, we can use the differencing the phases obtained for each data set separately (ibid).…”
