Relations of Fitness Parameters and Morphological Characteristics of Seven -Year - Old Obese Children

Abstract: The aim of this research was to determine the relations of fitness parameters and morphological characteristics of seven-year-old obese children. The sample of participants consisted of 103 obese children (63 girls and 40 boys), first grade students (mean age 7,04 years) of the elementary schools in Nis. The following fitness parameters were measured: HR in load, VO2max, resting HR, bend forward -bend backward -throw test, hand taping, 20m dash with a standing start, Abalakov test and forward bend on the bench… Show more

“…This is an easy-to-perform test with which a large number of individuals (~10 at a time) can be tested simultaneously. Using this test, it has been shown that obese children in several countries have low VO 2 max [ 2 ], but there is a sparsity of data on cardiorespiratory fitness in relation to obesity [ 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ]. In addition, studies indicate that even maternal prepregnancy BMI is negatively correlated with cardiorespiratory fitness [ 13 ].…”

“…Adipose tissue is endocrinologically active and involved in the interaction between adipocytokines, insulin, and sexsteroid hormones, thereby influencing cardiovascular fitness and metabolic processes (Bunc, 2006). In that regard, Pantelic (2017) considers that excess fat tissue is an obstacle to developing fitness abilities and motor tasks, which is in accordance with another studies (Zivkovic et al, 2018;Dosic et al, 2020), who have identified that children with higher fat mass have worse results in cardiovascular endurance, leg strength, flexibility, and running speed. Hence, overall BMI values are significantly associated with cardiorespiratory fitness, and therefore, multiple included studies have confirmed this statement (Mota et al, 2006;Paschoal et al, 2009;Esmaeilzadeh & Ebadollahzadeh, 2012;Tsiros et al, 2016).…”

“…Weight gain has a negative effect on people's physical and mental health (Wasiluk & Saczuk, 2020;Strong et al, 2005). The research results so far show that fitness is an excellent indicator and predictor of health in later life (Cvejić et al, 2013;Madić et al, 2018;Živković et al, 2018). Interest in sports activities, including fitness, has increased in recent years due to the fact that general health can be improved by improving physical fitness (Đokić et al, 2014).…”
