Relationship between gene polymorphisms of two cytokine genes (TNF-α and IL-6) and occurring of lung cancers in the ethnic group Han of China

Abstract: Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) is a cytokine involved in inflammation and TNF-α might be synthesized ectopically in malignant tumors. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is an interleukin that acts as both a pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokine. The present study is to investigate the relationship between genetic polymorphisms of the TNF-α and IL-6 genes and susceptibility to lung cancers in the ethnic group Han of North China. The genotypes in the -238G locus of TNF-α gene and the -572C locus of the IL-6 gene were d… Show more

“…For example, Liang et al . demonstrated that G-to-A alteration at the -238G locus of the TNF-α gene and C-to-G alteration at the -572C locus of the IL-6 gene correlated with the development of lung cancers [ 24 ]. Chen et al .…”

“…Immunohistochemical result IL-6 revealed few positive reactions in the bronchiolar epithelium and the CT around bronchiole and blood vessel with negative reaction in the interalveolar septa. A similar distribution of IL-6 in the control lung was previously described [58] . On the other side, tissue samples from the PPA treated lung revealed significantly increased in the area percentage of IL-6 in comparison to the control group.…”

“…Further, it favors the production of IFN-γ, thereby facilitating the inflammatory process [18]. Single base alterations, namely, G to A and C to G at the -238G to -572C loci, respectively, in the TNF-α gene were found to occur at a very high rate in lung cancer patients [19]. Further, the IL-10 haplotype predicts the survival and relapse of lung cancer, especially NSCLC [20].…”
