Relationship between the usability and physicochemical properties of triamcinolone acetonide ointments

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine the physicochemical properties of TA ointments and conduct a human sensory test to assess the properties of those ointments. Physicochemical assessment was done via near-infrared (NIR) absorption spectroscopy, measurement of water content, microscopy, and measurement of viscoelasticity. The human sensory test examined 5 aspects (texture, cohesiveness, spreadability, smell, and feel). Three TA ointments were used: TA-A, a brand-name preparation, and TA-B and TA-C, two ge… Show more

“…The formulation with the most optimal viscosity at 22°C could be easily removed from the container, while the most optimal viscosity at 37°C will allow an easier application on the wounds [35][36][37][38][39][40]. An optimal osmosis, which should be within the limits 250 -300%, will eliminate the exudate and also, will not affect the epithelisation phases [13].…”

“…On the other hand, NIRS has recently been used quantitatively in the quality control of pharmaceutical preparations, [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17] quantification of active pharmaceutical ingredients or excipients, 12,15,16) and measurement of the water content in food, pharmaceutical, and industrial products. 9,10,[18][19][20]22) NIRS is more advantageous and user-friendly than KF as it is a simple, rapid, nondestructive analytical method.…”

“…Near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is frequently used for non-destructive analyses of food, agricultural products, and beverages [3][4][5][6][7]. NIR spectroscopy is also used in pharmaceutical sciences for applications, such as (i) qualitative validation of the components of dermatological formulations, ointments, or creams [8][9][10][11]; (ii) assessment of the degree of mixing of powders prepared by using a mortar and pestle, fine granules, and dry syrups [12]; and (iii) assessment of the distribution of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and excipients in tablets by using microscopic NIR spectroscopy, which combines microscopy and NIR spectroscopy [13,14]. Recently, we evaluated a CLB Cr using NIR spectroscopy.…”
