Relationship of Corrosion Behavior Between Single-Phase Equiatomic CoCrNi, CoCrNiFe, CoCrNiFeMn Alloys and Their Constituents in NaCl Solution

Abstract: The composition is a significant issue for corrosion resistance of metallic materials. To reveal the correlation of corrosion behavior between multiprinciple alloys and their constituents, a series of single-phase equiatomic alloys of CoCrNi, CoCrNiFe and CoCrNiFeMn was fabricated. The electrochemical and scanning electron microscope results demonstrated that corrosion resistance of the equiatomic alloys in 0.1 M NaCl solution is located in the range but not the average value of their constituents. “…The high-resolution XPS spectra of Cr 2p of the wear tracks under different conditions are shown in Figure 8. The BE of Cr 3+ (2p3/2) in Cr2O3 was 576.4 eV [41], and a peak at 2.6 eV lower than the Cr 3+ (2p3/2) peak was observed, which was attributed to the BE of metallic Cr 0 [42,43]. FeCr2O4 with a BE of 577.9 eV could also be detected at 300 °C [38].…”

“…The high entropy alloy consists of five or more main elements and the content of each element ranges from 5% to 35%, which breaks the traditional alloy designation concept, and proposes a new idea for alloy designation [1][2][3] . The unique composition characteristics of high entropy alloys result in high strength and toughness, excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance, which can be used in aerospace, automobile, and petrochemical fields.…”
