Relaxation characteristics of (6s6p) 3P1 174Yb level

Abstract: First proposal is made to measure the ratio of stimulated photon echo power corresponding to two different mutual orientations of exciting pulses polarizations as a function of the buffer gas pressure to extract the spectroscopic information concerning the relaxation rates difference of orientation and alignment from these measurements. The absolute value of the difference between relaxation characteristics |γb | corresponding to orientation and alignment of 3 P 1 (6s6p) level of 174 Yb due to it's collisions … Show more

“…We have found two new phenomena: collisioninduced photon echo (CPE) and collisioninduced stimulated photon echo (CSPE), the last one origin is due to the difference between orientation and alignment decay rates. The numerical value for this difference 1.01•10 6 s −1 , obtained at Xe pressure of 159 mTorr, gives relaxation constants difference of 5.18•10 6 s −1 Torr −1 for ∂(Γ b )/∂p Kr = 6.8•10 6 s −1 Torr −1 obtained by SPE technique in [32].…”

“…is small, as compared to each of this decay rates. For the van der Waals interaction between active and buffer atoms, the estimated difference between 2 ( ) γ and 1 In our previous work [6] we could only determine the fact that 2 ( ) γ and 1 ( ) γ are not equal, and we measured the magnitude of this difference as a function of the buffer gas pressure (Kr was used as a buffer in [6]). This work shows a principal possibility to find the sign of this difference.…”
