PurposeWith the development of the internet, digital health literacy (DHL) has become increasingly important for managing health. Consequently, various digital health literacy scales have been created for different groups. The purpose of this study was to verify the reliability and validity of the simplified Chinese version of the Digital Health Literacy Assessment (DHLA) scale among university students in China.MethodSnowball sampling was used to recruit the participants via an online platform (Wenjuan.com), and finally 304 university students were included in the survey. Demographic information and the status of DHL were collected through the online questionnaire. Cronbach’s alpha and split-half reliability were used to test the internal consistency of the scale, while the structural validity was verified by exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Additionally, the convergence of the scale was tested by composite reliability (CR) and average variance extracted (AVE).ResultTwo dimensions were generated from 10 entries in the scale, named Self-rated Digital Health Literacy and Trust Degree of Online Health Information, respectively. The Cronbach’s alpha and split-half reliability of the total scale were 0.912 and 0.828, while the Cronbach’s alpha of the two dimensions were 0.913 and 0.830, respectively. The structural validity-related indexes of the scale met the standards (RMSEA = 0.079, GFI = 0.943, AGFI = 0.902, CFI = 0.971). In each dimension, the CR and AVE also reached critical values (CR > 0.7 and AVE > 0.5).ConclusionThe scale had high reliability and validity, indicating the simplified Chinese DHLA scale could be used to evaluate the DHL of university students in China.

Study on Life Satisfaction of the Elderly Based on Healthy Aging

The life satisfaction of the elderly is the key to subjective well-being and healthy aging. Many related studies are focused on the affected factors, including health status, economic level, social support, pension mode, social security, and intergenerational support, etc., but few are based on the macro perspective of healthy aging. This study constructed a healthy aging evaluation system with 6 dimensions, including 15 primary indicators and 57 secondary indicators, to evaluate the relationship between healthy aging and elderly life satisfaction. Results showed that the 13168 participants were, mainly, female (53.76%), 80–99 years old (47.99%), lived in rural areas (77.00%), married and living with their spouse (43.70%), and widowed (52.15%). 80.32% lived with household members. 70.37% elderly were satisfied with their lives. Specifically, there was no gender difference in life satisfaction of the elderly ( p = 0.273 ), but there were significant differences between groups of urban and rural ( p < 0.001 ), age groups of 65–79 and 80 older ( p < 0.001 ), marriage groups of unmarried and married ( p < 0.001 ), and types of elderly care of living alone and with others ( p < 0.001 ), respectively. Among the six dimensions of healthy aging, healthcare performed best and living environment dimension was the worst, which was an area that urgently needed to strengthen. The odds ratios (ORs) showed that the dimensions of social participation/social equity and economic finance played important roles in the well-being of the elderly. Under the macro background of healthy aging, how to take measures from the micro perspective of the healthy aging evaluation index system and ultimately improve the life satisfaction of the elderly and still needs to be explored in-depth.

ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to translate the Healthy Aging Activity Engagement Scale (HAAE) into Chinese and validate its psychometric properties in the middle-aged and elderly population.MethodsA total of 424 middle-aged and elderly people were recruited from China's Jiangsu Province, Liaoning Province, Shandong Province, and Heilongjiang Province. Cronbach's α co-efficient, split-half reliability, and test-retest reliability were used to evaluate the reliability of the translated scale. Expert consultation was used to evaluate the content validity of the translated scale. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used to evaluate the structural validity of the scale.ResultsThe Cronbach's α co-efficient of the Chinese version of HAAE was 0.965 and the Cronbach's α co-efficient of the dimensions ranged from 0.898 to 0.957. The split-half reliability was 0.807, and the test-retest reliability was 0.850. The content validity index of the scale (S-CVI) was 0.969. A total of three common factors were extracted from the EFA. The CFA validated the explored 3-factor structure, and the indicators were fitted well (χ2/df = 1.393, comparative fit index = 0.982, goodness- of- fit index = 0.911. Tucker-Lewis Index = 0.981 and root mean square error of approximation = 0.030).ConclusionThe translated Chinese version of HAAE had suitable reliability and validity in the middle-aged and elderly population. The translated scale will be used to evaluate the level of healthy aging among middle-aged and elderly people in Chinese mainland. Furthermore, it also can provide some health advice for clinical patients.
