Reliability, availability and maintainability analysis of a bag production industry based on the six sigma DMAIC approach

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to implement the six sigma (SS) strategy in a bag sector under actual operating circumstances based on defining-measure-analyze-improve and control (DMAIC). During the project, several statistical tools and methods have been used efficiently to create inferences. Thus, to measure and enhance system efficiency, the author calculate reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) indices. Based on this research, the author show how the SS method and RAM analysis are very … Show more

“…Another example is the verification of the equipment parameters. Although the equipment was newly designed, the parameters were set up as those for the old equipment without verification, which may lead to equipment failures (Tsarouhas, 2020). After this improvement project, Company M is fully aware that the assurance activities can guarantee the effectiveness of the quality management system.…”

“…In recent decades, maintenance scheduling through reliability engineering analysis has played an important role in maintaining the system in an operating state [3]. Several recent studies have analyzed reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) in various types of industries and equipment, such as the ice cream industry [4], the bag industry [5], in mining with load, haul and dump machines (LHD machine) [6], in the textile process industry on steam boiler equipment [7], on conveyor system equipment [8], on deck objects on fishing vessels [9], plug-in electric vehicles [10], dragline equipment [11], truck unloading [12].…”

“…A reliability index or value is one method to identify a critical subsystem and provide a numerical value to determine the weakest parts and components critical for system performance [8]. The knowledge of reliability is necessary for reducing unplanned downtime costs as well as increasing system performance [9]. The use of an outstanding reliability program will ensure the maintenance data as crucial information regarding the system performance and direct the use of this information to be investigated by management [1].…”
