Reliability of the Brazilian version of the Cambridge Cognitive Examination Revised CAMCOG-R

Abstract: The study' goal was to evaluate the reliability of the Cambridge Cognitive Examination Revised-Brazilian version (Br-CAMCOG-R), a neuropsychological battery measuring the global cognitive function. It was applied on 123 elders and retested at a mean interval of 30.7 days; 60 were evaluated by two raters at the same time. The intraclass coefficient for the set of items and for the subscales varied from 0.93 to 0.98. In the retests the agreement was nearly perfect for the set of items. There was no expressive ra… Show more

“…This concept makes clear that the validation process is not to be concluded following an initial translation and reliability study, but rather is the final product of hard scientific work. We think that the cited papers of Bottino et al (2001) and Paradela et al (2009), along with a few other recently published methodological works, fail to fulfill the required criteria that would allow us to conclude that the task is finished.…”

“…This is the latest version of the CAMCOG, and is part of the Cambridge Examination for Mental Disorders of the Elderly‐Revised . The CAMCOG‐R is a brief neuropsychological battery formerly designed to be used in individuals with positive results in screening tests for cognitive deficits . It has incorporated a few pre‐existing screening instruments for cognitive decline, widely used in epidemiological research, such as the Mini‐Mental State Examination, and eight of the 10 items of the Hodgkinson Abbreviated Mental Test .…”

“…1 The CAMCOG-R is a brief neuropsychological battery formerly designed to be used in individuals with positive results in screening tests for cognitive deficits. [2][3][4] It has incorporated a few preexisting screening instruments for cognitive decline, widely used in epidemiological research, such as the Mini-Mental State Examination, 5 and eight of the 10 items of the Hodgkinson Abbreviated Mental Test. 6 The CAMCOG-R is subdivided into eight subscales, which assess different cognitive domains: orientation (time and place), language (comprehension and expression), memory (incidental, remote, recent and new learning), attention, calculation, praxis, perception and executive functions (abstract thinking, ideational fluency and visual reasoning).…”
