Removal of 2-chlorophenol Using Rice Husk Activated Carbon Prepared by zncl2/h3po4 Activation

Abstract: The rice husk, agricultural solid waste was successfully converted into activated carbon using mixture of chemical agents ZnCl 2 /H 3 PO 4 . Their properties including porous structures, surface functional groups and morphology structures were carefully studied. Applications of rice husk activated carbons were applied for removal of 2-chlorophenol in aqueous solution under different conditions. The nitrogen isotherm exhibits Type IV, and the presence of hysteresis loop clearly shows the predominantly mesoporou… Show more

“…The concentration of PA was increased from 33.08 to 34.82% after purification using CaO/bentonite-300 nanocomposite. The presence of metal impurity can be easily found in the patchouli oil due to the conventional equipment during purification process [7]. The data show that CaO/bentonite nanocomposite was effectively decreased Fe level of patchouli oil from 4.25 to 1.56 ppm.…”

“…Indonesia is the world's largest producer of patchouli oil for more than 80% of the global market [3][4][5]. However, the quality of patchouli oil in Indonesia cannot meet the international market standards [6][7][8]. Patchouli oil quality requirements are currently outlined in the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 06-2385-2006, which includes the physical and chemical properties (color, density, refractive index, optical round, acid value, patchouli alcohol (PA) level, Fe content and ester number) [5,9].…”

“…1. The presence of bands near to 800 cm -1 would have been due to the presence of C-H bonds attributed by the bending of aromatic compounds [20]. The peaks less than 500 cm -1 would have been due to Si-O groups [21].…”

“…Corresponding the great development of mesoporous structures based on the IUPAC classification: micropores (8 to100 Å), mesopores (100-500 Å), and macropores (>500 Å), pore radius equals to 191.559 Å. The total pore volume was estimated to be 0.017 cc/g [13]. The average pore diameter was estimated from the surface area and total pore volume.…”
