Removal of C.I. Basic Yellow 2 from aqueous solution by low‐cost adsorbent: hardened paste of Portland cement

Abstract: The adsorption of C.I. Basic Yellow 2 (BY2) from aqueous solutions on to hardened paste of Portland cement (HPPC) as a low-cost adsorbent and its adsorption kinetics at different conditions were studied. The adsorption process was followed by an online spectrophotometric analysis system, which consisted of a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, a designed spectrophotometric cell, a peristaltic pump and a glass reactor. The effect of experimental parameters, including initial dye concentration, mass of HPPC, initial pH an… Show more

“…Figure 5a shows the effect of BCP dosage on the adsorption capability of Cr(VI). Increasing the adsorption efficiency by increasing adsorbent dosage was due to the availability of greater surface area and adsorption sites for the constant number of Cr(VI) ions (Rasoulifard et al 2010). Figure 5b indicates that by increasing the adsorbent dosage from 0.1 to 0.2 g, the value of q eq also decreases.…”

“…The adsorption efficiency increased as the adsorbent dosage increased. This was likely the result of the increased surface area and adsorption sites for the constant number of PFF molecules (Ozacar and Sengil 2005;Rasoulifard et al 2010). Figure 4d indicates that the adsorption capacity of Fe/Ni nanoparticles decreased as the adsorbent dosage increased to above 8 g/l Fe/Ni.…”

“…In recent years, more and more researchers applied non-conventional low-cost adsorbents to remove the various dyestuffs from an aqueous solution. Some of these are as follows: waste materials [18], fruit peels [19], Portland cement [20], Tripoli [21], date stones and palm-trees [22], pomegranate peel [23], fly ash [24,25], betonies [26], princess tree leaf [27], sepiolite [28], kaolin [29,30], etc.…”
