Removal of chromium (VI) using activated carbon-supported-functionalized carbon nanotubes

Abstract: The powdered activated carbon (AC) supported by carbonaceous nano-adsorbents were examined to remove hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] from aqueous solution The adsorption behaviour of micro-level concentration of Cr(VI) on those nano-adsorbents was investigated as a function of the experimental conditions such as the contact time, the pH, the dosage of adsorbent, and the initial concentration of Cr(VI). The structural characterization of the adsorbents was accomplished by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy an… Show more

“…The isotherms show that TC adsorption approached the equilibrium at low concentrations and much faster than CBZ and DS. Many models have been used to describe adsorption isotherm data [41], and the Langmuir model is widely used, which can provide the parameter of maximum adsorption capacity. The Langmuir model (q e =q m C e /(1/b+C e )) was used to describe the experimental data, and the fitting results and obtained parameters are presented in Fig.…”

“…It is clear that Cr (VI) ions are better adsorbed to the N6,6/ GO and the composite has an adsorption capacity of 47.17 mg/ g. The Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin-Radushkevich, and Scatchard isotherms were used using Eqs. 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively (Parlayıcı et al 2015). q max and K L were obtained from the slope and intercept of the plot of C e /q e versus C e shown in Fig.…”

“…Among these treatment methods, adsorption has been recognized as one of the most suitable and efficient method due to its great advantages, such as easy operation, high adsorption efficiency and low cost. Several adsorbents, like zeolites [11], carbon-based materials [12][13][14], activated alumina [15] etc., have been used for the removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solutions. Recently, considerable attention for the removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions has been paid to natural biosorbents such as chitosan.…”
