Removal of crotamiton and its degradation intermediates from secondary effluent using TiO2–zeolite composites

Abstract: Crotamiton, a scabicide and antipruritic agent persistent during biological treatment processes, is frequently detected in secondary effluent. In this study, titanium dioxide (TiO) and high-silica zeolite (HSZ-385) composites were synthesized and applied for the treatment of crotamiton in secondary effluent. Crotamiton was rapidly adsorbed by HSZ-385, and the adsorption performance of crotamiton in the secondary effluent was quite close to that in the test using ultrapure water. Even though the TiO-zeolite com… Show more

“…High‐silica zeolite (HSZ‐385, surface area, 600 m 2 /g; mean particle size, 4 µm; SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 ratio, 100:1) was purchased from Tosoh (Tokyo, Japan). The adsorption capacity of HSZ‐385 for crotamiton was 4.87 × 10 −4 mol/g (crotamiton initial concentration 10 mg/L, same as in this study) (Xiang, Fukahori, Nomura, & Fujiwara, 2017a). P‐25 TiO 2 powder (50 m 2 /g, anatase) was purchased from Nippon Aerosil (Tokyo, Japan).…”
