Renal excretion in channel catfish following injection of quinaldine sulphate or 3‐ trifluoromethyl‐4‐nitrophenol

Abstract: Channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus Rafinesque, injected intraperitoneally with 2-methylquinoline sulphate (QdSO,) or 3-trifluoromethyl-4-nitrophenol (TFM) eliminate most of the dose of these compounds by extra-renal routes. Patterns of renal excretion of Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, and C1-(pEq kg-l h-l) appeared to be associated with the ' stress ' of the urine collection technique rather than with the elimination of either compound. Concentrations of Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mga+, and C1-(mEq/l) were determined in urine, pl… Show more

“…Sills and Allen (1975) measured residues in muscle tissues of eight species of fish exposed to TFM. Hunn and Allen (1975) investigated the effects of exposure to TFM on the renal excretion of coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch), and Allen and Hunn (1977) assessed the effect of an intraperitoneal injection of TFM on the renal function of channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus). Lech (1973) and Lech and Costrini (1972) investigated the metabolism of TFM in rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri).…”
