Renormalization of the Mean-Field Superconducting Penetration Depth in Epitaxial YBa2Cu3

Abstract: The a-b-plane penetration depth X(T) in YBa2Cu3C>7 films, determined from kinetic inductance measurements, follows the temperature dependence of weak-coupling mean-field BCS theory near T c to within ~0.5 K of T c , resolution limited either by homogeneity or for the thinnest films by phase fluctuations. The Kosterlitz-Thouless transition in a thin film is the first observation in a clean type-II superconductor, noted by the universal superfluid jump and the algebraic-decay law with a square-root cusp exponent… Show more

“…As for the pairing function, the temperature dependence of the penetration depth in YBa 2 Cu 3 0 7 has been reported to be consistent with the BCS s-wave pairing [29]. The reason for the discrepancy between this and Tj is still not clear.…”

“…We therefore take VpT^ to be < 1 /um, which implies Hq i, 17 kG, so our measurements are in the weak field regime. In addition, since there are numerous evidences [Fiory et al, 1988;Krusin-Elbaum et al, 1989;Porch et al, 1988;Uemura et al, 1988] of BCS-type superconductivity for high Tç superconductors, we have changed the temperature-…”
