Abstract: Background Research in the US and UK has demonstrated the effectiveness of person-centred planning (PCP) for people with intellectual disabilities. “…Although little is known about barriers to the successful implementation of person-centered planning in the behavioral health system, this is an important endeavor given the likelihood that only when barriers are understood and addressed can PCRP improve consumer outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. A greater understanding of barriers to PCRP implementation is therefore important for the facilitation of constructive change, creative solutions, and greater staff buy-in (Holburn and Vietze 1999;Robertson et al 2007). …”

This situation might limit signifi cant opportunities for the individual with an ID to be involved with the community or have access to community resources or opportunities (Coyle & Moloney, 1999).…”

“…As a result, professional training and a guide as to how to implement these procedures and models is considered an essential, needed component for future PCP work (Holburn, 2002;Leroy et al, 2007). A lack of trained personnel and staff involved with PCP interventions can serve as a significant barrier in implementation of the intervention (Robertson et al, 2007b). Depending on the client, GAS might not only provide more specific measurable outcomes for the client, but also might have relevance in "how we are doing as a team" in providing further empirical guidance for the PCP process.…”
