Reproductive dysfunctions in viral hepatitis

Abstract: The viral hepatitis abnormalities in the female reproductive system are due to hepatic and extrahepatic damage. On the background of HBV- and HCV-infections, menstrual disorders prevail in the structure of reproductive system pathology; disorders of reproductive function in the form of pregnancy loss and infertility are detected in each second case. Depression of T-cell immunity in the immune status is observed in the patients with intact reproductive function. When miscarriage was in past medical history then… Show more

“…As is well known, there are many forms of viruses affecting the female reproductive endocrine system. For example, menstrual disorders are prevalent in women with HBV or HCV infections, and reproductive dysfunction in the form of pregnancy loss and infertility have also been detected( Kurmanova, 2016 ). An earlier age of onset of menopause was found in women with HIV( Nanette, 2005 ).…”

“…In addition, one study reported that the cellular immune response plays a significant role during HBV and HCV infections, which may result in abnormal ovarian function( Kurmanova, 2016 ). In addition, the treatment process affects the female hypothalamic-gonadal-axis( Kao, et al, 2019 ).The glucocorticoids treatments might be used in some cases, and their effect on the reproductive and endocrine system in women of child-bearing age is not yet known.…”

“…Cryoglobulinemia is an autoimmune manifestation most commonly identified among patients with hepatitis C virus infection. Purpura, arth ralgia, fatigue, myalgia, polyneuropathy, glomerulonephritis, ophthalmopathy, and intestinal ischemia are the major clinical symptoms [88,18]. A large variety of clinical characteristics are present in patients with cryoglobulinemia and are discussed as follows:…”

“…It should be remembered that generalized vascular disease triggers reproductive function disorders in hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus infections. With the successive development of hormonal homeo stasis dysfunction, immune complex vascu litis produces degenerative changes in the hypothalamic pituitary area [88].…”

“…Early intrauterine infection by HBV, herpes simplex virus (HSV) and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) could cause abnormal embryo development, early abortion, stillbirth or fetal malformation [3][4][5][6] . In our previous study, HBV mRNA was detected in discarded human embryos, and abortion occurred in these patients in the later follow-up [7] .…”
