Reproductive factors and extreme levels of maternal serum alpha‐fetoprotein: a population‐based study

Abstract: Low serum AFP levels in pregnancy are significantly correlated with high parity and with a short interval between births. The significantly lower levels of AFP in women who gave birth to girls could indicate a possible gender-specific regulatory mechanism.
