Reptilia, Gymnophthalmidae, Micrablepharus maximiliani (Reinhardt and Lutken, 1861): distribution extension, new state record and geographic distribution map

Abstract: We provide records for Micrablepharus maximiliani from state of Minas Gerais and present a map representing its distribution. The record of M. maximiliani from municipality of Resplendor, Minas Gerais, represents a distribution extension of 1,050 km southern from the type locality at the municipality of Maruim, Sergipe. Others 57 new records are presented based on specimens housed in several Brazilian and Paraguayan herpetological collections, improving the knowledge on geographic distribution of M. maximilian… Show more

“…Pelegrin et al (2017) described differences in microhabitat preferences in the Caatinga among Tropidurus hispidus, T. helenae and T. semitaeniatus, three sympatric species found in the Parque Nacional Serra da Capivara. Drymoluber brazili, Micrablepharus maximiliani and Tupinambis quadrilineatus, which were also found in other areas of Piauí, were recorded in areas with a predominance of Caatinga, Cerrado-Caatinga ecotone and Cerrado vegetation, respectively (Moura et al, 2010;Freitas et al, 2012;Silva et al, 2013).…”

“…Preference for open habitats in this species is well established (VANZOLINI 1988, MESQUITA et al 2006, NOGUEIRA et al 2009). In fact, even in the Atlantic Forest, M. maximiliani is usually found in association with open formations such as restingas (FREIRE 1996, SILVA et al 2006 or forest edges (RODRIGUES 1996), being rarely found inside rainforests (NOGUEIRA et al 2009, MOURA et al 2010.…”

“…For example, Psilops paeminosus was previously recorded in Canindé de São Francisco (Delfim et al 2006), but we did not record this species. Other species have also been observed in nearby locations and were not found in this study, such as Tropidurus cocorobensis, which occurs in sandy areas between Bahia and Pernambuco (Rodrigues 2003), and Micrablepharus maximiliani, whose type locality is the state of Sergipe and has a wide distribution in Caatinga (Rodrigues 1996, Moura et al 2010. Thus, we suggest that new samplings be carried out in unsampled areas of the municipalities in the Alto Sertão region of Sergipe state.…”
