Research of Middle School Pre-Service Mathematics Teachers’ Mathematical Literacy on PISA Items

Abstract: Öz: Bu çalışmada ortaokul matematik öğretmeni adaylarının matematik okuryazarlıklarının matematik öğretmenliği lisans programındaki gelişiminin bazı PISA soruları üzerinden incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Nitel olarak desenlenen çalışmanın katılımcılarını dördüncü ya da altıncı yarıyılında olan 22 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. “…One of the most prominent international examples of such negative situations is the results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), which is conducted every three years by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). In this assessment, which provides information about the education status of participating countries and allows for cross-country comparisons, Turkey has been observed to perform below the average scores of most participating countries in terms of mathematical literacy when compared to other countries (Kabael & Barak, 2016). According to the PISA 2018 results announced on December 3, 2019, although there was an improvement in Turkey's mathematical literacy performance (Ministry of National Education [MoNE], 2019), the sustainability of this improvement process and the ability to further enhance performance depend on students' ability to use the knowledge and skills they acquire in school in their daily lives.…”
