Maritime transport is a rule-intensive mode of transport. Maritime accidents continue to occur, however, and the catastrophic consequences of such accidents means that maritime transport safety continues to be an important subject. The International Safety Management (ISM) Code is one of the most important steps taken to prevent accidents and enhance shipping safety with the establishment of the safety management system (SMS). However, the important point is not only the establishment of the SMS but also the effective implementation of the ISM Code. To improve the effective implementation of the ISM Code, an innovative strategy development approach has been developed with the integration of Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) and Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) methodologies. In the study, causal relationships between ISM Code clauses are mainly analyzed with the DEMATEL method. Subsequently, using the results obtained from the analysis of the causal relationships, potential strategies to improve the effective implementation of the ISM Code are presented by using the TRIZ method. The findings of the paper could provide beneficial outcomes for shipping companies and national and international regulatory bodies to enhance maritime transport safety by improving the effectiveness of implementation of the ISM Code.

The liquid composite molding family (LCM) includes several processes like RTM ("Resin transfer molding") and VARI ("Vacuum assisted resin infusion"), to satisfy the requirements of each industry. The objectives of recent years in the automotive and aerospace industries tend towards better control of production costs by using of new materials, shorter manufacturing cycles, a higher level of performance and safety and better environmental respect. In the automotive sector, a short cycle time and a lower cost equipment are the most criteria to determine a suitable process, while the quality of the part is the primary parameter for aeronautical process selection. The main objective of this paper is to propose and discuss a new design of LCM mold, allowing at the same time to facilitate the manufacturing process, in particular to reduce the cycle time and to respect the material's health by obtaining a part with minimum defects. This innovation is achieved by using the TRIZ theory (theory of inventive problem solving), in order to eliminate the contradictions that exist between the requirements of the two sectors.

Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to explore the efficacy of 40 inventive principles of TRIZ for developing researchers' innovative capabilities and to evaluate the extent of application of "40 inventive principles" by inventors in the Research Center of Intelligent and Signal Processing (a successful research center that is producing new products in the field of signal processing and medical engineering). Design/methodology/approach -A range of relevant literature is explored initially. A questionnaire about 40 inventive principles of TRIZ was developed based on literature review. Finally, a data analysis including descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis was designed by using SPSS software. Findings -The results showed that about 71 percent of the researchers have employed TRIZ above the average in their innovative products. Also these studied researchers used TRIZ principles unintentionally. Therefore, if this research center and similar institutes want to make full use of their researchers' abilities, they can facilitate innovation through offering courses on TRIZ, the principles of TRIZ and its other tools to them. Originality/value -This study is probably the first to provide an exploring of TRIZ inventive principles applications through a research center.
