In future, GIS will develop in the direction of popular application. Geography information sharing has become a stringent problem needed to resolve. Because people's cognition of real geographic world is different from each other, semantic discrepancy comes into being. As a result, Realization of geography information sharing has firstly to realize GIS's semantic sharing. Geo-ontology provides generally accepted concepts in geographic information domain and explicit formalized definitions thereof, so as to resolve the problem different geographic cognition gives rise to and inter-translation problem of description logic thereof. Geo-ontology can be applied to integration and sharing of geographic information. Start with the process of abstraction and generalization from real geographic world to computer world, this paper analyzes the source of semantic heterogeneity, and introduces geographic feature and its representing generalized geographic objects. Then this paper analyzes relationships between geo-ontology and geographic feature in detail, finally lay emphasis upon research on how to use geo-ontology to represent geographic features.GIS is about to enter into a popular application stage, and geography information sharing has become a stringent problem needed to resolve.Geography information sharing is communication process among data-producer, system and user, thereinto involving not only data itself but also semantics of data. Semantics is the meaning of concepts of things in the real world data corresponding to, as well as relationships among those semantics, which is explanation and logic representation of data in a certain domain. Semantics expresses people's cognition of real world by abstract of cognition model or formalized definition of geographic concepts. Since different discipline has different cognition model with regard to the same real world, semantic heterogeneity comes about, which includes naming heterogeneity and cognition heterogeneity. GIS semantics sharing lays emphasis on the ability of dealing with semantics discrepancy. Semantics interoperation may make GIS semantics keep a certain accuracy, integrity and consistency in the conversion and application process, so as to realize GIS semantics sharing that is the most effective. Consequently it is realized that geographic information can be more effectively utilized. Geo-ontology provides accepted concepts in geographic information domain and gives explicit and formalized definition of them, in order to solve the problem different geographic cognition give rise to and the intertranslating problem of logic description, which is applied to integration and sharing of geographic information.Owing to the above reasons, we have to research the following problems: (1) Abstracting process from the real geographic world to the computer world, and analyzing the source of bringing about semantic heterogeneity. (2) How to adopt geographic feature integrating geometric attributes with non-geometric attributes to represent abstracted geographic objects...
