Research regarding the hardness of cast iron

Abstract: Brake blocks for rolling stock are made of phosphorous cast irons or composite materials. In cast iron brake blocks, their structure and mechanical characteristics are influenced by their chemical composition. Through the research and experiments done, there have been established correlations between chemical composition and hardness. The correlations are presented both in analytical and graphical form, as well as their analysis from a mathematical and technological point of view. The regression areas allow th… Show more

“…Experimental research was performed in a foundry that had induction electric furnaces, an automatic air-pressing machine model HFP 2, and a semi-automatic casting line for the manufacture of rolling stock brake shoes. Research was performed on 70 phosphorus cast iron charges, from which 2 types of brake shoes (type S1 and S2) were poured [3,21].…”

“…1/SFMR/SDT/ 2000/Brake Shoes for the motor and towed rolling stock, as approved by the Romanian Railway Authority [2]. The manufacture of very important brake shoes relies on the influence of various chemical elements in the cast iron structure to prevent obtaining phosphorus cast iron that is too hard, which would prematurely wear the vehicle wheel bandage rail, or too soft, which would increase the consumption of brake shoes due to premature wear [20,21].…”

“…and Psylliodeschrysocephala), turnip sawfly (Athalia rosae), and the large white (Pieris brassicae). In the spring, the OSR crop is attacked mainly by the stem weevils (Ceutorhynchus napi, C. quadridens), apple blossom beetle (Epicometis hirta), pollen beetle (Meligethes aeneus), and cabbage seedpod weevil (C. assimillis) [64][65][66][67][68][69]. In some years, the cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae) can attack OSR when plants are in the early maturity stages at the beginning of the summer [64,66,70].…”
