“…This finding is congruent with previous studies indicating that social support is a protective factor against chronic illness (Ahern & Hendryx, 2005;Craig, Blumgart, &Tran, 2011). Fong, Finlayson, andPeacock (2006), for their part, identified that persons with multiple sclerosis have poor social support due to the limitation and strain of the nature of the disease as perceived by their respondents.…”

Foi evidenciado que esses três fatores são considerados protetores e contribuintes para o processo de resiliência, cada um desempenhando um papel na adaptação e enfrentamento diante da adversidade associada a uma doença crônica.…”

“…For example, in a study of 140 adults seeking treatment for their stuttering, Iverach et al (2011) found wide variation in scores on the Unhelpful Thoughts and Beliefs About Stuttering scale and on a range of psychological tests. Modulating factors will likely be influenced by, among other things, individual experiences (for example, teasing during childhood), anxiety, fear of negative evaluation and stuttering severity, all in turn possibly influenced by individual differences in emotional reactivity (Walden et al, 2012) and resilience (Craig, Blumgart, & Tran, 2011).…”
