Resonant frequency and radiation efficiency of meander line antennas

Abstract: One of the approaches to reducing the size of half‐wavelength linear dipole antennas is the meander dipole antenna, where the elements form a meander line. This paper presents a formula for the relationship between the geometrical size and the resonant frequency of the meander line dipole antenna, and a calculation formula for the radiative efficiency is derived from the result. It is shown that the geometrical parameters of the meander line dipole antenna can be determined from the specified radiative efficie… Show more

“…For small antenna applications, an appropriate loading inside an antenna can lead to size reduction and proper matching. Typically, the capacitive loading or inductive loading are common techniques, which eventually increase electrical length of an antenna, to make an antenna physically small [2], [3]. However, when both loadings are simultaneously applied inside an antenna, a resonance characteristic that results in antenna size reduction can be obtained.…”

“…An alternative planar FDA design with an open geometry, as shown in Fig. 1, has been proposed and demonstrated for enhancing output power from THz photomixers because of the improved impedance matching [27][28][29]. In addition, some preliminary Schottky-diode-based detector designs using lens-coupled planar FDAs (LC-FDAs) have been demonstrated experimentally at 75 and 200 GHz, showing promising performance [25,30].…”
