Silent heat is a condition in which livestock does not show symptoms of heat but physiologically estrus occurs due to low concentrations of the estrogen. Vitamins are small organic compounds that are needed by horses for the process of development, reproduction, and activity. Vitamin preparations are easily obtained and economically for breeders. This research aimed to observe differences in estrogen concentrations in postpartum silent heat gayo horses before and after therapy using intramuscularly vitamins A, D, E. Four of six gayo mares suspected of postpartum silent heat after diagnosis using ultrasound were used in this study. Four gayo mares were divided into two groups, the control group (K1, n=1) was only injected with NaCl and the therapy group (K2, n=3) was injected with vitamins A, D, E intramuscularly twice with an interval of one week. Blood plasma samples were collected before and after therapy for 7 days, then stored in the freezer at -20°C for analysis of estrogen concentrations using EIA. Data before and after therapy were analyzed using paired sample t-test and data between groups were reported descriptively. The results showed that the estrogen concentration of postpartum silent heat gayo horses in K1 was not significantly different (P>0.05) before and after NaCl injection (251.71±57.90 vs 255.56±84.14 pg/ml), while there was a significant difference in K2 (P<0.05) before and after vitamin A, D, E therapy (194.82±56.64 vs 557.11±96.55 pg/ml). Descriptively, there were differences in the concentration of the hormone estrogen in K1 and K2 after postpartum silent heat therapy. The conclusion is postpartum silent heat therapy using vitamins A, D, E in gayo horses can increase the concentration of the hormone estrogen in the estrous phase which has an impact on the appearance of estrus symptoms that is more clearly and easily observed by breeders.

This research aims to determine the biological response of administering the PGF2α hormone to the estrous activity of Madurese cows. This research method uses two observation techniques, namely estrus synchronization by administering the PGF2α hormone “Alfaglandin® C (Cloprostenol)” and observing natural estrus. The data were analyzed by using the t test using the Software for Research statistix 10. The results showed that the frequency of estrus at the same time of observation was not significantly different from the two treatments (p>0.05), the highest frequency of estrus occurred at 18.00-20.00 in synchronized cows or not. The results of visualization of estrus showed cervical mucus, swollen vulva, and vaginal pH had the same percentage, while the vaginal temperature and duration of estrus had different percentages. The conclusion of this study is the frequency of estrous events, estrus visualization (cervical mucus discharge, swollen vulva, vaginal pH, and length of estrus), and the appearance of cervical ferning has the same response, while estrus temperature has a variable response.

Saanen Crossbred goats are an excellent livestock commodity with great potential for development in Indonesia. This excellent potential is not optimal due to the limitations of farmers in detecting estrus for mating program. This study aimed to determine the relationship between body condition score (BCS) and parturition on the characteristics of estrus. This study included 18 non-pregnant Saanen Crossbred does aged 3 years. Does were grouped based on parturition number (1 and 2) and BCS (2.5 and 3). The variables measured including vulva color, swelling, mucus secretion, vaginal pH, vaginal temperature, and salivary ferning. Data were analysed using independent sample T-Test and correlation analysis. The results showed that does with parturition 2 (2.16±0.40) had higher swelling parameter values (p<0.01) than parturition 1 (1.16±0.38), and does with BCS 3 (2.11±0.33) had higher color parameter values (p<0.01) than dose with BCS 2.5 (1.33±0.50). Additionally, the results indicated a positive correlation for several estrus characteristics, including color with swelling (0.58), color with mucus (0.531), and pH with ferning (0.501). It has also been found that the ferning method may be an easier estrus detection tool. Based on these findings, both parturition and BCS affect some estrus expressions, and several estrus characteristics are correlated.
