Two field trials were conducted on garlic clone Sids-40, in the vegetable private Farm at Kafr Meet Faris, Dakahlia Governorate, during 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons to study the effect of sulphur fertilizer levels (150 , 300 and 450 kg S/fed) and spraying with some natural stimulants (yeast, moringa and chitosan) on plant growth, yield and its components, as well as chemical constituents and storability of bulbs. In general, plants fertilized with sulphur elemental were better than unfertilized plants. Increasing of applied sulphur level from 150 to 450 kg S/fed significantly improved all studied growth characteristics, yield and its components in addition to chemical constituents, bulbing ratio and number of cloves/bulb which had a better values in both seasons. Moreover, sulphur application at 450 kg/fed significantly increased concentrations of N, P, K, S, TSS % and volatile oils in cloves and enhanced storability. Foliar spray garlic plants 3 times past 45 , 60 and 75 days from planting with chitosan (200 mg/L) exceeded other foliar spray with some natural stimulants and formed the highest means of whole studied growth characteristics, yield and its components, chemical constituents and enhanced bulbing ratio, number of cloves/bulb storability in both seasons. The best results were obtained by application of 450 kg S/fed and foliar spray with chitosan. This treatment achieved reduces weight loss at the end of the storage period reached to 20.3% and 20.5% in the first and the second seasons respectively comparing with the untreated ones. Therefore, this treatment could be recommended for raising garlic yield and improving bulb quality during the storage period under similar conditions to this work.

“…The positive effect of moringa extract treatment under salinity circumstances may be attributed to its contents of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants in addition to its high content of nutrients (as shown in Table 2 ), thus, it can be said that external application of moringa extract had an effective role in alleviating the salt stress-induced damages in garlic plants, where moringa extract application conferred the capacity to improve the garlic plant's growth performance, and stress tolerance under salinity circumstances. Our results are in harmony with those of Hegazi et al, (2016) who studied moringa leaf extract application to achieving sustainable horticulture production and declared that performance of garlic plants was enhanced by moringa foliar application. Nanotechnology can put advents for increasing yields to support agricultural sector and decreasing environmental risks. Also, natural plant extracts can stimulate the performance of plants grown on salt affected soil. A little is known about the joint effects of external application of moringa extract plus foliar spraying with Nanoparticles on garlic plants grown on saline soil. So, a field research work was executed aiming at assessing the influence of the external applications of moringa extract [ with (30 ml L -1 ) and without foliar spray, as main plots], copper oxide Nanoparticles (CuO NPs) as sub plots at different rates i.e, 0.0, 1.0 and 2.0 ng L -1 and magnetite iron oxide Nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs) as sub-sub plots at different rates i.e, 0.0, 2.0 and 4.0 ng L -1 on the performance of garlic plants grown on saline soil at two periods (100 and 180 days from planting). The findings indicate that the garlic plants grown on saline soil with foliar application of moringa extract had the best performance compared to the corresponding garlic plants grown without external application of moringa extract. On the other hand, the plant improvement increased as the rate of NPs increased. Generally, the best performance was recorded when garlic plants were sprayed in combination with moringa extract (30 ml L -1 ), CuO NPs (2.0 ng L -1 ) and magnetite Fe3O4 NPs (4.0 ng L -1 ) compared to other combined treatments. Generally, it can be concluded that studied substances acted to mitigate the influences of salinity stress of soil on garlic plants.

One of Egypt’s most notable and historically significant vegetable crops is the Liliaceae plant, Allium cepa L. In this study, the effectiveness of methanolic extracts of Artemisia absinthium leaves, Calotropis procera latex, Moringa oleifera seeds, and Syzygium aromaticum clove was investigated in vitro and, in a greenhouse, setting against Fusarium oxysporum, the pathogen that causes onion basal rot in Assiut Governorate, Egypt. The S. aromaticum extract exhibited the inhibition peak (63.3%), whereas the A. absinthium extract had the lowest inhibition impact against F. oxysporum growth (41.1%). The gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC–MS) analysis revealed that 82 important compounds, with abundances ranging from low to high, were present in the tested S. aromaticum’s methanolic extract. The primary components were acetaldehyde, hydroxy- and 2-propanone, 1,1,3,3-tetrachloro-(42.71%), 1,2-ethanediol, and methyl alcohol (34.01%). In comparison to the infected control, the disease severity was significantly reduced by 20% with the use of a plant extracts mixture and Dovex 50% and increased by 62.22% with the use of an extract from A. absinthium. When compared to the infected control, onion plant fresh weight and dry weight were considerably higher under the clove extract therapy. The plant extracts used in this study’s testing contain a number of active ingredients, including amino acids, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and enzymes, which is probably why they have such positive impacts. The application of a combination of plant extracts was suggested as a feasible strategy for improving the growth and productivity of onion plants by the study’s findings. More research is needed to comprehend the mechanisms by which plant extracts promote plant development and to optimize the concentration and timing of administration.
