Response of Garlic Plants to Foliar Application of Moringa Leaves Extract, Glutamine and Cysteine

Abstract: Foliar application with some amino acids provides plant with readymade nutrition, thus it has positive effect on plants metabolism with a corresponding promotion in crop quantity and quality. Thus, two field experiments were conducted at Kaha Vegetable Research Farm, Qalubia governorate, Egypt during the two successive winter seasons of 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 in a clayey loamy soil under flood irrigation system. Garlic (Allium sativum L.) cv. Sids 40 was used to study the effect of foliar application with thr… Show more

“…Effect of foliar spray with some natural stimulant substances: Data in Table (5) show that nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, volatile oils and TSS % contents in garlic cloves at harvest were significantly increased due to spray the plants with chitosan compared with the other natural stimulant treatments. These results agree with those reported by Fawzy et al (2012), Ahmed (2015) and Hegazi et al (2016).…”

“…Also, yeast extract had stimulatory effects on cell division and enlargement, protein and nucleic acid synthesis and chlorophyll formation. These results were parallel with those reported by El-Morsy et al (2011), Fawzy et al (2012), Shalaby and El-Ramady (2014), Ahmed (2015) and Hegazi et al (2016).…”

“…The positive effect of moringa extract treatment under salinity circumstances may be attributed to its contents of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants in addition to its high content of nutrients (as shown in Table 2 ), thus, it can be said that external application of moringa extract had an effective role in alleviating the salt stress-induced damages in garlic plants, where moringa extract application conferred the capacity to improve the garlic plant's growth performance, and stress tolerance under salinity circumstances. Our results are in harmony with those of Hegazi et al, (2016) who studied moringa leaf extract application to achieving sustainable horticulture production and declared that performance of garlic plants was enhanced by moringa foliar application. Beside, Mohamed et al, (2019) found that growth of garlic plants was increased with moringa foliar application.…”
