Responses in children to measles vaccination associated with perirenal transplantation

Abstract: Live measles vaccination of children with chronic renal failure is effective and safe, because the seroconversion rate, rate of antibody titer maintenance and degree of antibody titer elevation in children with chronic renal failure were all equivalent to those of healthy children.

“…Pre-transplantation immunization against measles has been shown to be safe, with seroconversion rates ranging from 80% to 98%. [82][83][84] The fact that measles pretransplantation titers are predictive of post-transplantation titers 13 confirms the importance to ensure adequate immunization before SOT. With respect to post-transplant immunization, only 4 prospective studies have evaluated carefully selected children immunization after SOT.…”

“…A genetic component to explain differences in antibody production between individuals in response to MMR vaccination has been suggested [46,47]. The MMR vaccine has been shown to be immunogenic in transplant candidates and no serious adverse events have been reported Review article: Medical intelligence [4,48,49]. In SOT recipients, however, but only in small paediatric studies (N ≤35), the seroconversion rate was lower after SOT (range 41-100% for the measles component) but appeared to be safe in specific conditions, which included low immunosuppression (table 3) [27,32,33,35,36,50].…”
