Results of radical surgery in women with stage IB2/IIA2 cervical cancer

Abstract: In the context of current knowledge about survival and side effects of various treatments for bulky early-stage cervical cancer, radical surgery is a good treatment option in these patients. Depending on the type of surgery used, adjuvant radiotherapy can be minimized.

“…In the study by Hongladaromp et al, 3 LN metastasis was stated as 40.6% in stage IIa2 cervical cancer. Surgical margins were involved in 2 (4.3%) patients in the current study, which is comparable with the report of Derks et al 4 and lower than that reported in a randomized phase III trial by Eddy et al 14 Lymphovascular space invasion is accepted as an intermediate risk factor since the GOG 92 study. 15 Furthermore, some studies informed that LVSI was associated with decreased survival.…”

“…These rates were similar to those reported in previous studies. 1,4,8 Ovarian metastases were reported from 0.5% to 19% in early-stage cervical cancer. 3,9 In our study, no ovarian metastases were determined.…”

“…Although the details of chemotherapy were not clear, it was a large-scale study using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database (13). In addition, Derks et al suggested that radical surgery may be a good treatment option for patients with stage IB2/IIA2 cervical cancer because patients who received surgery-based treatment showed relatively longer survival (14). Therefore, surgical intervention is considered a favorable treatment for local cervical carcinoma.…”

“…The most common was hyponatraemia, followed by neutropaenia and diarrhoea [5]. Furthermore, it was suggested that geriatric patients with stage I or II cervical carcinoma may benefit from radical surgery followed by radiotherapy [6]. Similarly, Lin et al demonstrated that patients older than 75 years may be treated curatively with radiotherapy [7].…”
