“…Ectopia lentis and zonular deficiency are assumed to result in a constant pull on the ora serrata, liquefied and mobile vitreous gel, traction on vitreoretinal adhesion, and increased axial length, thus causing retinal thinning and predisposing these eyes to RD 14 15. Comparing the characteristics between those patients with detached and non-detached retinas in our study, a more severe grade of lens dislocation and more high axial myopia were detected in those with detached retinas.…”

“…Lee and Ang (24) noted a much higher frequency of retinal detachment in MFS male patients when compared with female patients (11 : 1) in an Asian population retrospectively observed over a 10‐year period; Abboud (25) found a similar ratio (13 : 1) in a study performed in Saudi Arabia. This was not supported by our data, where seven male and seven female patients had experienced retinal detachment.…”

“…112 But poorer visual outcome is likely to be encountered when there is concomitant lens dislocation or a history of intraocular surgery. Generally, the results are comparable with those patients without Marfan syndrome and successful reattachment of the retina is achieved in 86% 113 to 100%.…”
