Resveratrol Decreases Periodontal Breakdown and Modulates Local Levels of Cytokines During Periodontitis in Rats

Abstract: Continuous administration of resveratrol may decrease periodontal breakdown induced experimentally in rats. In addition, lower levels of IL-17 were found in the RESV group. Future studies are important to confirm the mechanism through which resveratrol exerts its effects.

“…The highest amount of the retained RSV within nanofiber structure was detected in nanofibers from CA0 -80%, from nanofibers made from THF/DMF and CA0.03 around 30%, and from DCM/DMF nanofibers almost all RSV was released in 12 hours.Shrikar et al reported, that the dominated mechanism of drug release from PCL nanofibers is desorption of the embedded compound through nanopores in the fibers or from the outer surface of the fibers in contact with the medium. A practically important outcome of this surface desorption mechanism is that only the compound on the M A N U S C R I P T A C C E P T E D ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPT 16 surfaceand in pores can be released, whereas the drug loaded between polymer chains cannot be released with the same kinetics scales [37]. Most likely the water did not have the access to dissolve the RSV captured between PCL chains.…”

“…Similarly, beneficial effect has been also reported for different polyphenols [80][81][82][83][84]87 , as well as CoQ 99 but they only have been tested in animals, although for many their in vivo antioxidant effects seems due to iNOS expression or activity modulation and not to free radical scavenging. Unfortunately, at the moment, experimental interventions in humans have been reduced to vitamin C 54-57 but also for E 76 or Zinc 78 , where vitamin E have result the most interesting although it were used after mechanical treatment.…”

“…The additon of several specific polyphenols to the diet have been tested in rodents models of periodontitis. “…Resveratrol is a phytoalexin found in grapes, peanut and mulberries with various beneficial biological and pharmacological properties (Casati et al, 2013). It is reported that resveratrol can accelerate metabolic pathways and it has been shown that resveratrol has direct increasing effects on osteogenesis (Casarin et al).…”
