RETRACTED ARTICLE: Probiotic assisted weight management as a main factor for glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes: a randomized controlled trial

Abstract: ObjectivesTo evaluate the effect of Lactobacillus casei 01 on dietary intake, body weight, and glycemic control in patients with T2DM.MethodForty patients with T2DM (n = 20 for each group) were assigned into two groups in present trial. The patients in the probiotic group received a daily capsule containing a minimum of 108 CFU of L. casei 01 for 8 week. The placebo group took capsules filled with maltodextrin for the same time period. Dietary intake questionnaires and anthropometric measurements were collecte… Show more

“…Silymarin has a structure called silibinin which can protect the liver [6]. Silymarin has been reported as an effective compound in patients with type 2diabetes [7]., such as lack of useful medication and side effects in most of cases [8,9]. Zebra fish has been established as a suitable model among vertebrate for biomedical research with more than 85% genetic similarity to humans [10].…”

“…In addition to the bactericidal effect, the high colony number of Bifidobacteria after consuming LcS promotes fermentation in the intestine, decreases food intake and fat mass, and improves insulin secretion which ultimately helps to reduce weight gain 28 . Oral administration of probiotic facilitates thermogenic and lipolytic effects through stimulating the sympathetic nervous system, which leads to weight reduction 31 . On the other hand, the LC group in our study tended toward BMIZ reduction in female adolescents compared to the RC.…”

“…casei is a transient bacterium in the human body and can relieve hypocholesterolemia, atherosclerosis, and hypertension in mice/rats through a cholesterol-lowering mechanism attributed to the improvement of BAs, SCFAs, and TMAO (10,(101)(102)(103). L. casei 01 supplementation significantly decreased dietary intake and body weight through improving serum fetuin-A and sirtuin1 levels and glycemic response in T2DM patients (26). L. casei can also effectively treat T2DM and hyperglycemia by suppressing GM-mediated inflammation (104)(105)(106).…”
