Retroperitoneoscopic pancreatectomy: a new surgical option for pancreatic disease

Abstract: The results of this preliminary study demonstrate that retroperitoneoscopic pancreatectomy, a novel surgical approach, was feasible and effective in selected patients. The advantages of this approach include acceptable operating time, insignificant blood loss, simple manipulations, minor complications, and excellent postoperative recovery time. Additionally, this study suggests that retroperitoneoscopy could also be feasible for treatment of retroperitoneal nonpancreatic diseases.

“…28 Compared with transabdominal laparoscopic approaches, one of the most important advantages of retroperitoneoscopy is the establishment of direct and simplified access to the retroperitoneal organs. We reported the first clinical application of retroperitoneoscopic pancreatectomy and successfully completed pancreatic tumor resection, distal pancreatectomy without splenectomy, pancreatic cyst excision, and retroperitoneal tumor resection.…”

“…28 Compared with transabdominal laparoscopic approaches, one of the most important advantages of retroperitoneoscopy is the establishment of direct and simplified access to the retroperitoneal organs. 28 Single-port surgeries are reported to have the same surgical outcomes as traditional laparoscopy with no significant difference in operative time. After dissection of perirenal fat from the anterior renal fascia, an ideal retroperitoneal space (anterior perirenal space) can be developed.…”

“…Cet abord a été employé avec succès pour des lésions kystiques ou tissulaires bénignes de la queue du pancréas, mais l'expérience publiée de PG par cette voie reste limitée à 6 cas dans la littérature [35,36]. La faisabilité de la PG laparoscopique par trocart unique a également été rapportée pour des lésions de petite taille chez des patients minces, mais l'expérience publiée est également très limitée [37][38][39][40][41], sans qu'aucun bénéfice n'ait été démontré [41].…”
