Abstract:Recent theoretical progresses in the reverse osmosis (RO) desalination process were reviewed. The long RO channel as commonly used in desalination applications was modeled as a heterogeneous system in which the permeate velocity, crossflow velocity, and salt concentration are all variables along the membrane channel. Concentration polarization and energy consumptions in such a heterogeneous RO channel were rigorously quantified and analyzed. Examples were provided for the demonstrations or illustrations of the… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
