Review of seru production

Abstract: Seru production is regarded as a new production mode and derived from the production site of Japanese electronics industry. This production mode is proposed to overcome the low flexibility of the assembly line. Seru production has been successfully implemented in Japanese electronics industry, such as Canon and Sony. Benefits from Seru production include rapid response, good flexibility, and high productivity. Seru production has received extensive attention in academic research and production practice. “…As with alternate definitions, it also encompasses the nature of both material and information flows, and encourages responsibility for continuous improvement and learning. The most distinguishing feature of seru is its emphasis on supporting openness to process reconfigurations to accommodate needs (Yu and Tang, 2019). Accordingly, the Seru Responsiveness instrument reflects this distinction (Yin et al, 2017).…”

“…Apart from this, the major challenge will be a requirement of multi-skilled employees. Seru manufacturing system is the best example of the requirement of multi-skilled employees in the production floor (Yu and Tang, 2019). Seru manufacturing follows a standard training and implementation policy in electronic goods industries (Liu et al, 2013).…”

“…Seru production system (SPS), which is the latest innovation in production management in the Japanese manufacturing industry, is a new type of production system with quick responsiveness and high flexibility [3]. Since the 1980s, many Asian leading electronic enterprises such as Canon, Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, LG, Fujitsu, and NEC have adopted SPSs to enhance their coping ability to volatile markets [4,5]. Roth et al [2] reviewed the last 25 years of the growth and evolution of operations and supply chain management and noted that serus are more flexible than Toyota production systems and represent the next generation of lean.…”
