Review of under Frequency Load Shedding Program of Kosovo Power System based on ENTSO-E Requirements

Abstract: Under-frequency load shedding (UFLS) is designed to protect the power system when the frequency drops below given thresholds by switching off certain amounts of the load aiming thus to balance generation and load. This paper presents a review of the existing UFLS (Under Frequency Load Shedding) program in compliance with recently revised Police-5 of Operational Handbook of ENTSO-e. The proposed review of the current UFLS program for Kosovo Power System has considered the main standards requirements and guideli… Show more

“…Pada operasi suatu pusat listrik tenaga termis, seperti pusat listrik tenaga uap (PLTU) dan pusat listrik tenaga gas (PLTG), penurunan frekuensi yang besar akan sangat mempengaruhi karakteristik kerjanya, sehingga kemampuannya menurun. Disamping itu pengoperasian turbin diluar frekuensi yang diizinkan dapat menimbulkan kerusakan pada sudu-sudu turbin [8].…”

“…The design and calculation the amount of load shedding is a complex process, requiring large amounts of input data on incident situations that cause serious frequency attenuation. Conventional load-shedding methods typically use load shedding relays [7][8][9][10][11] with step-by-step load shedding that correspond to levels of frequency attenuation or df/dt [12]. Most of these methods, the power of load that need to be cut in the form of load shedding tables is built by the electrical system specialist.…”

“…The underfrequency load shedding relay (UFLS) is the traditional load shedding method used quite commonly in the current power system. In [4], the relays are set to operate whenever the frequency drops to a specified level and a fixed amount of load power is shed to restore the frequency. Using under frequency load shedding relay to disconnect the load bus will make in insufficient or excessive load shedding and take a long time to restore the frequency back to stable.…”
