Review on Research of Design Thinking

Abstract: Abstract:Design and innovation are the dominant themes of current times. Innovation is not the equivalent of technological invention, and it focuses on creating value by design, during the whole process of delivering technologies to users. Design thinking is the thought pattern to implement this process, and it is a way of innovation with considerable influence, high efficiency, and wild applicability. Design thinking can be broadly extended and integrated to every level as well as every field of the society. … Show more

“…A specific professional field cannot achieve design thinking; many critical keys of innovative solutions are necessarily the result of cross-disciplinary collaboration (Li et al, 2017). The educational application of design thinking has developed from an independent to an integrated teaching model (Lin and Shen, 2018).…”

“…In 1987, Professor Rowe coined the term 'design thinking' in his publication 'Design Thinking.' [3] In 1992, Buchanan proposed design thinking as a versatile problem-solving tool across domains [3]. Stanford University established the d. school in 2005, fostering interdisciplinary design thinking education [3].…”

“…In some studies [6,7], iterative design cycles are modeled as transitions between information processing activities and decision making, and innovative design involves more frequent iterations among the activities of problem analysis, idea generation, composition of ideas from other ideas, and evaluation. Product development is not only a process of seeking solutions, but also involves problem exploration and effective utilization of knowledge [8]. Therefore, the understanding and solving of a design problem is both solution-and knowledge-dependent.…”
