Abstract: Vienna at the turn of the century and Berlin in the 1920s have both entered the topology and mythology of modernism. Both were doomed cultures, linked by the Great War, which destroyed the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Second Empire and gave birth in defeat to the Austrian Republic and the Weimar Republic. Vienna and Berlin mark two stages in the crisis and disintegration of the 19th-century European order and the rise of mass society and mass politics. Hitler's progress from Vienna to Berlin cannot be under… Show more

“…Unfortunately, the difficulty of the inverse scattering problem [27,28] prevents us from deriving the potential based on knowledge of fk. However, our explorations of modifications to suggested interatomic potentials do indicate that they would agree better with our measurements if Vr were modified such that Vr 0 0 occurs at smaller r 0 and the well were made less deep in the range r e < r < 2r e [29]. Our data should be useful in evaluating future refinements of interatomic potentials.…”

“…In comparison, the counterphase used here is determined by a frequency that can be set to a precisely known and stable value. Our technique [9] is more closely related to methods developed in [10] and used in [2 -5] where dispersion compensation is achieved by moving the gratings to simulate platform rotation or acceleration.…”

“…A revival in contrast occurs when int v 0 2fL shifters =v 0 . However, the maximum rephased contrast is less than the ideal 100% because of imperfections discussed in [9] such as the width of the atom beam, the implemented phase ramp and the finite length of the phase shifter regions. The rightmost curve () in Fig.…”
